South African Organic Standards
On the 5th December, 2017 - World Soil Day - The SAOSO Standard for Organic Production and Processing was included in the IFOAM Family of Standards.
SAOSO would like to thank all those who participated in the process of getting the SAOSO Standard for Organic Production and Processing to the point of being published.
Particular thanks go to those members of the interim steering committee, IFOAM Organic International, PGS-SA and other specialists who assisted with the finalisation of the standards.
Special thanks to Konrad Hauptfleisch and Joelle Katto-Andrighetto of IFOAM Organic International, whose advice and work have been invaluable.
Organic Standards, SAOSO has adopted IFOAM standards and these have been promulgated and are equivalent and in some cases better than the IFOAM Family of Standards.

The final onset of Organic Standards for and in South Africa is a momentous achievement, as they have been in the pipeline for several years.
It is with great excitement that we can announce that the Organic Standards for South Africa will be compiled and released to the public within the next couple of weeks.
Once putting a set of Organic Standards in place, that we as a nation can be proud of, we will naturally allow for a swift and effective transition to a more ethical and environmentally friendly food system. This is something to greatly look forward to and most importantly to support.
SAOSO aims to deliver Organic Standards that South Africans, can be proud of. Organic Standards that are internationally recognised and trusted which support and enhance local trade within our country.
